Manufacturer's description

High-quality industrial oil for gas and steam turbines. Shell Turbo T oils have long been regarded as the industry-standard turbine oils. Building on this reputation, Shell Turbo T oils have been developed to deliver improved performance capable of meeting the requirements of the most modern steam turbine and light gas turbine systems that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox. Shell Turbo T oils are formulated from high-quality hydrotreated base oils and a combination of zinc-free additives, which deliver excellent oxidative stability, protection against rust and corrosion, reduced foaming and excellent demulsibility.

Applications

  • Shell Turbo T oils are available in ISO viscosity grades 32, 46, 68 and 100, suitable for applications in the following areas: industrial steam turbines and light gas turbines that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox
  • Numerous applications where outstanding control of corrosion and oxidation is required
  • Dynamic, centrifugal and axial turbocompressors and pumps where R&O type turbine oils are recommended
  • For special applications such as compressors for ammonia or high-sulphur gases with wet gas seals, please contact your technical representative.
  • Industrial steam turbines and light gas turbines that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox
  • Hydroelectric turbine lubrication
  • Indian Standard IS 1012:2002

Performance & benefits

  • The use of oxidation-stable base oils, combined with an effective inhibitor package, provides high resistance to oxidative degradation, resulting in extended oil life, reduced formation of aggressive corrosive acids, deposits and sludge, and therefore lower operating costs.
  • Anti-foam additives in the formulation control foam formation, and rapid air release from the lubricant reduces the risk of pump cavitation, excessive wear and premature oil oxidation, providing increased system reliability.
  • Excellent demulsibility makes it easy to remove water from the lubrication system — common in steam turbines — minimising premature wear and corrosion and reducing the risk of unplanned maintenance.
  • Prevents rust formation and corrosion, protecting equipment exposed to moisture or water, both during operation and shutdown periods, minimising maintenance.

Standards & approvals

  • DIN 51515-1 TD

Turbine oil TD — DIN 51515, part 1

The German standard for steam and gas turbine oils; class TD covers ordinary lubricating and control oils with high oxidation stability.

  • ISO 8068 THA

Turbine oil, class THA — ISO 8068

Class THA of ISO 8068 (family T, turbines): turbine oil for hydro (water) turbines.

  • ASTM D 4304 Type I

ASTM D4304 Type I — mineral turbine oil

The American standard for turbine oils; Type I covers inhibited mineral oils with high oxidation stability and rapid water separation.

  • GB 11120-2011 L-TSA

GB 11120-2011, class L-TSA — turbine oil (China)

Class L-TSA of the Chinese turbine-oil standard GB 11120-2011: a steam-turbine oil, the Chinese counterpart of ISO 8068 TSA.

  • IS 1012:2002

IS 1012:2002 — Indian standard for a lubricating oil

The Indian national standard setting the requirements for a grade of lubricating oil: viscosity, flash point, pour point and impurity content.
