Hydraulic fluid - readily biodegradable, synthetic ester blend. Shell PANOLIN S3 HLP SYNTH EAL is zinc-free additive technology, blended with fully synthetic saturated and unsaturated esters provides an good blend of lubrication performance and environmental acceptability. Readily biodegradable with a low ecotoxicity, particularly suited for use in environmentally sensitive areas where eco-label compliance is required including US waters. For use in stationary and mobile hydraulic systems including marine and deck equipment, construction and forestry.
USDA BioPreferred program
US federal program promoting the use of biobased products (including lubricants) through preferred federal purchasing and a certification label.Source
OECD 301B biodegradability above 60 %
A test result rather than a norm: OECD 301B measures the carbon dioxide evolved over 28 days. Above 60 % counts as "readily biodegradable", the threshold the environmental labels require.
The European Union's voluntary ecolabel, certifying that a product, including lubricants, meets reduced-environmental-impact criteria across its life cycle.
SS 15 54 34 — environmental requirements for hydraulic fluids (Sweden)
The Swedish standard requiring high biodegradability, low aquatic toxicity, and that the finished fluid not be classified as environmentally hazardous. It is required near groundwater and drinking water sources; verified products appear on the "SP list".
