Environmentally Considerate, Fully Synthetic Hydraulic Fluid. Shell Naturelle Fluid HF-E is an advanced hydraulic fluid for use in hydraulic and power transmission systems. It is readily biodegradable with a low ecotoxicity, and is particularly suited for use in environmentally sensitive areas. Fully synthetic esters, blended with ashless additives, provide Shell Naturelle Fluid HF-E with a superior blend of lubrication performance and environmental acceptability.
The European Union's voluntary ecolabel, certifying that a product, including lubricants, meets reduced-environmental-impact criteria across its life cycle.
SS 15 54 34 — environmental requirements for hydraulic fluids (Sweden)
The Swedish standard requiring high biodegradability, low aquatic toxicity, and that the finished fluid not be classified as environmentally hazardous. It is required near groundwater and drinking water sources; verified products appear on the "SP list".
Biodegradable hydraulic fluid HEES — ISO 15380
The international standard for biodegradable hydraulic fluids; class HEES is the synthetic ester type, the most used where a leak would reach water or soil.
VDMA 24568 — biodegradable hydraulic fluids
The VDMA sheet setting requirements for readily biodegradable hydraulic fluids, including synthetic-ester types.
USDA BioPreferred program
US federal program promoting the use of biobased products (including lubricants) through preferred federal purchasing and a certification label.Source
OECD 301B biodegradability above 60 %
A test result rather than a norm: OECD 301B measures the carbon dioxide evolved over 28 days. Above 60 % counts as "readily biodegradable", the threshold the environmental labels require.
Hydraulic oil — DIN 51524
The German standard for mineral hydraulic fluids, in three parts: HL (part 1), HLP (part 2) and HVLP (part 3), by additive package and viscosity index.
Hydraulic oil, type H HM — ISO 11158
The international standard for mineral hydraulic fluids; class HM is the antiwear oil, the ISO counterpart of DIN 51524-2 HLP.
