Manufacturer's description

PETRONAS HYDRAULIC ESF 46 belongs to the PETRONAS Hydraulic ESF Series of supreme performance anti-wear hydraulic fluids, specially developed to reduce fuel and energy consumption in modern mobile and industrial hydraulic equipment operating under normal to extremely heavy duty conditions, including the latest high speed and high pressure systems. It is formulated with a unique semi-synthetic combination of selected base oils, a high shear stable viscosity index improver, advanced anti-wear, anti-oxidant, anti-rust and anti-foam additives and friction modifiers. The result is excellent anti-wear protection, highly stable performance across a wider temperature range than standard viscosity index products, up to 5x longer lasting performance versus the ISO 11158 HV TOST minimum, and up to 6% direct fuel saving in mobile equipment or up to 10% energy saving in stationary industrial equipment compared with conventional hydraulic fluids. It is recommended for hydraulic systems that demand good viscosity control over the operating cycle, high speed and high pressure pumps running at high temperatures, systems exposed to rapid temperature variations, outdoor equipment in cold climates with frequent cold starts, high precision systems such as moulding machines, systems with small reservoirs and coolers, sludge and varnish sensitive systems with tight tolerance pumps and servo valves, and applications requiring long life lubricants. Benefits include excellent wet and dry filterability, excellent thermal and oxidation stability, rust and corrosion protection, water separability, fast air release and foam stability, and compatibility with most metals, seals and elastomers. Typical properties: viscosity 46 cSt at 40°C and 8.8 cSt at 100°C, viscosity index 174, flash point 220°C, pour point -33°C, TOST life 5,200 hours. Performance levels: Bosch Rexroth RDE 90220, DIN 51524 Part II HLP and Part III HVLP, Eaton 03-401-2010 and E-FDGN-TB002-E, Fives Cincinnati P-68/P-69/P-70, ISO 11158 HV and Parker Denison HF0/HF1/HF2.

Applications

  • Various mobile and industrial hydraulic systems operating under normal to extremely heavy-duty conditions that demand good control of fluid viscosity during the operating cycle.
  • Modern hydraulic systems using high-speed, high-pressure pumps that operate at high temperatures.
  • Hydraulic systems subjected to high or rapid variations in operating or ambient temperatures.
  • Outdoor hydraulic systems operating in cold climates, where protection at sub-zero temperatures and frequent cold start-ups is required.
  • Hydraulic systems requiring high precision and stable efficiency, such as moulding machines.
  • Hydraulic systems with small reservoirs and small coolers that generate high thermal stress on the fluid.
  • Systems sensitive to sludge and varnish formation, with tight-tolerance pumps and servo valves.
  • Hydraulic systems demanding long-life lubricants.

Performance & benefits

  • Helps cut energy costs and/or fuel consumption by up to 10% and 6% respectively, thanks to the fluid's energy-saving formulation.
  • Ensures superior performance and protection over a wide temperature range, through a high viscosity index.
  • Ensures proper protection of equipment components during cold starts.
  • Protects equipment components from excessive wear and provides longer equipment life, through excellent anti-wear protection.
  • Maintains excellent filter efficiency without causing undue pressure drop, increasing filter lifetime.
  • Maintains performance under high temperatures and pressure, enabling long oil drain intervals, through excellent thermal and oxidation stability.
  • Inhibits corrosion in the presence of water, improving equipment life.
  • Protects the hydraulic system from water's degenerative effects and reduces maintenance costs, thanks to excellent water separability.
  • Ensures smooth operation and maintains excellent efficiency through fast air release, protecting the system from air's degenerative effects and reducing maintenance costs.
  • Is compatible with most metal alloys, ensuring trouble-free system performance.
  • Is compatible with most seals and elastomers, preventing oil leaks and contamination from seal erosion.

Standards & approvals

  • DIN 51524-2 HLP

Hydraulic oil HLP — DIN 51524, part 2

Part 2 of the German hydraulic fluid standard: HLP oils — mineral oils with oxidation, corrosion and antiwear additives. It is the most widely quoted reference in industrial hydraulics.

  • Eaton 03-401-2010

    Eaton 03-401-2010 — hydraulic fluids

Eaton's hydraulic fluid specification for its own pumps and motors, which unified the former Vickers I-286-S and M-2950-S requirements.

  • Fives Cincinnati P-68

Fives Cincinnati P-68 — ISO VG 32 hydraulic oil

An approval number from the Fives Cincinnati list of fluids for use in its own machine tools. Approved hydraulic fluids must pass its own wear, filterability and water separation tests, beyond the DIN 51524-2 level.

  • Fives Cincinnati P-69

Fives Cincinnati P-69 — ISO VG 68 hydraulic oil
