Manufacturer's description

High-performance hydraulic fluids based on Group II base oil, for versatile applications. Shell Tellus S2 VX fluids are high-performance hydraulic fluids based on Group II base oils that deliver outstanding protection and performance across a wide temperature range. They resist degradation under demanding temperature and mechanical stress conditions and are ideal for most mobile equipment and other applications subject to a wide range of operating temperatures.

Applications

  • Mobile / exterior hydraulic systemsSystems using hydraulic and power transmission fluids exposed to the environment are subject to temperature variations. The high viscosity index of Tellus S2 VX helps maintain performance under cold start, high load and arduous operating conditions.
  • Precision hydraulic systemsPrecision hydraulic systems demand excellent viscosity control throughout the operating cycle. Shell Tellus S2 VX offers greater temperature-viscosity stability compared with ISO HM fluids, which helps improve the performance of these systems.
  • Marine hydraulic systemsSuitable for marine applications where ISO HV category hydraulic fluids are recommended. Specifications, approvals and recommendations: the product is formulated to meet:
  • ASTM D6158 (HV fluids)For the full list of equipment approvals and recommendations, we recommend consulting the Shell Technical Helpdesk. Compatibility and miscibility
  • CompatibilityShell Tellus S2 VX fluids are compatible with most types of hydraulic pump
  • Fluid compatibilityShell Tellus S2 VX fluids are compatible with most mineral oil based hydraulic fluids. However, hydraulic fluids must not be mixed with other fluid types (e.g. environmentally acceptable or fire-resistant fluids).
  • Compatible with seal materials and paintsShell Tellus S2 VX fluids are compatible with the seal materials and paints normally specified for use with mineral oils.

Performance & benefits

  • Resistance to thermal and chemical breakdown helps extend equipment maintenance intervals, minimising sludge formation for better system reliability and cleanliness.
  • Good stability in the presence of moisture ensures long fluid life and reduces the risk of corrosion and rusting, particularly in humid environments.
  • Shear-stability additives minimise variation in fluid properties throughout its service life.
  • Formulated to meet the demands of hydraulic systems well into the future, including new specifications such as Bosch Rexroth RDE 90245, with enhanced performance in the FZG test (FLS 11 at ISO VG 32).
  • Demonstrates excellent performance in the tough Denison T6H20C (dry and wet versions) and Eaton Vickers 35VQ25 tests, helping system components last longer.
  • Superior cleanliness, excellent filterability and outstanding water separation, air release and anti-foam characteristics all help maintain or enhance the efficiency of hydraulic systems; optimised friction characteristics help reduce stick-slip effects.
  • A cleanliness grade of ISO 4406 20/18/15 or better (measured at the filling line) reduces the impact of contaminants on filters, extending filter life and improving system protection.
  • The formulation provides rapid air release and exceptional foam control, helping efficient hydraulic power transfer and minimising the impact of cavitation-induced oxidation that can shorten fluid life.

Standards & approvals

    Eaton E-FDGN-TB002-E — hydraulic fluids

The Eaton technical bulletin listing the requirements for hydraulic fluids in Eaton and Vickers equipment, including the vane pump wear test.

  • ISO 11158 HV

Hydraulic oil, type H HV — ISO 11158

Class HV of ISO 11158: an antiwear hydraulic oil with a high viscosity index, for systems exposed to wide temperature swings.

  • DIN 51524-3 HVLP

Hydraulic oil HVLP — DIN 51524, part 3

Part 3 of the German hydraulic fluid standard: HVLP oils, with the same additive package as HLP but a high viscosity index, for systems working across a wide temperature range.

  • ASTM D 6158 HV

ASTM D6158, type HV — high-viscosity-index hydraulic oil

The HV class of ASTM D6158: an antiwear hydraulic oil with a high viscosity index that holds its fluidity across a wide temperature range — typical for equipment working outdoors.
