Manufacturer's description

Lubricants for medium-speed marine diesel engines running on distillate fuels. Shell Gadinia S3 40 are premium multifunctional diesel engine lubricants, formulated specifically for severe operating conditions, for the main propulsion and auxiliary trunk piston engines that use distillate fuels with a sulphur content of up to 1%. The new Gadinia S3 40 formulation has also been optimised for other applications found on board ships, such as gearboxes, clutches and stern tubes.

Applications

• For highly rated medium-speed marine diesel engines, for the main propulsion and auxiliary trunk piston engines, stationary engines and marine diesel engines.
• Shell Gadinia S3 40 performs satisfactorily in the smaller, high-speed engines of fishing fleets that operate under difficult conditions and have small oil sumps.
• Turbocompressors, oil-filled stern tubes and variable pitch propellers
• Deck equipment and other marine applications requiring an SAE 40 oil viscosity.

• Extended oil life: offers excellent resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation, giving longer oil life under stress and in difficult operating conditions.
• Engine protection: helps extend engine life by reducing deposit formation on pistons and cylinder liners and reducing the risk of ring sticking and breakage.
• The new formulation minimises lacquer formation, giving greater control of oil consumption and reduced operating costs.

• Formulated to have greater tolerance to engine overload or poor combustion, offering a greater safety margin to protect highly loaded bearings in the event of water contamination, due to improved water tolerance and separation in separators.
• Also approved for non-engine applications such as gearboxes, clutches and stern tubes, helping smaller operators minimise the range of lubricants they need to carry onboard.
