Primol 382 is a medicinal-grade white oil: a purified mixture of liquid saturated hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum through several refining stages, including an ultimate purification by catalytic hydrogenation. It is a colourless, transparent oily liquid, essentially odourless and tasteless, manufactured to exceed the purity requirements of the Pharmacopoeias, with superior chemical inertness giving better colour and oxidative stability than most mineral and vegetable oils when stored and used under controlled conditions. In thermoplastics, Primol 382 is recommended as a food packaging-grade plasticizer in polystyrene, combining outstandingly low volatility with excellent compatibility for optimal performance in general purpose and high-impact PS grades; it is also recommended as an external lubricant for non-plasticized PVC and as an inert, protective catalyst carrier for polypropylene processes, including as a pigment powder dispersant in master batch compounding. In elastomers and adhesives, it is used to produce food-contact or medical rubber articles such as EPDM or butyl rubber, is well suited to extending thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) such as SBS, SEBS or SEPS, and is recommended for hot-melt adhesive formulations used in sanitary products. In cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, it has well-established uses in laxative jellies and ointments, and as a component of creams and body lotions. Primol 382 is registered to NSF H1 and meets or exceeds FDA 21 CFR 178.3620(a), the European Pharmacopoeia Liquid Paraffin monograph, the US Pharmacopeia/National Formulary Mineral Oil monograph, and European Regulation (EU) 10/2011. Typical properties include a kinematic viscosity of 67.0-78.0 mm²/s at 40°C, density of 863-873 kg/m³ at 15°C, flash point ≥240°C and pour point ≤-9°C.
