Manufacturer's description

Cat DEO (Diesel Engine Oil) SAE 15W-40 is a heavy-duty diesel engine oil for the Asia Pacific, Europe and CIS markets, developed, tested and approved by Caterpillar to meet the same standards as all Genuine Cat Parts. It is recommended for Tier 3 and prior engines without aftertreatment systems, for heavy-duty diesel engines from other manufacturers that call for API CI-4 and prior oils, and for automotive gasoline engines requiring API SL oils; it is used as standard factory-fill for Cat engines. Cat DEO resists oxidation and prevents piston and ring deposit buildup for increased engine life, has been thoroughly tested in Cat diesel engines including those running on high-sulfur fuel, and offers improved soot control and enhanced shear stability that maintain proper viscosity for longer. Typical 15W-40 characteristics include a flash point of 225°C, density 0.869 g/ml, pour point -36°C, kinematic viscosity 110.20 cSt at 40°C and approximately 15.5 cSt at 100°C, viscosity index 136, sulfated ash 1.1% wt., TBN 9.2, zinc 0.129% wt. and phosphorous 0.112% wt. The 15W-40 grade meets or exceeds API CI-4/CH-4/SL, Caterpillar ECF-2, ACEA E7-16, and China GB 11122-2006 CI-4/CH-4 / GB 11121-2006 SJ/SL; it can also be used in engines requiring Cummins CES 20077/76/72/71, Mack EO-N/EO-M/EO-M PLUS, MAN 3275-1, MB 228.3, MTU Oil Category 2, Renault RLD-2, and Volvo VDS-2/VDS-3. Distributed in Romania by Bergerat Monnoyeur.

Applications

  • - Intended use (per safety data sheet): Engine oil

Performance & benefits

  • Increased Engine Life—Resists oxidation and prevents buildup of deposits on pistons and rings
  • Proven Performance—Tested thoroughly in Cat diesel engines to ensure excellent engine life and performance in all applications, including engines using high sulfur fuels
  • Long-Lasting Protection—Improved soot control and enhanced shear stability enable the oil to maintain proper viscosity for longer operating periods
  • Factory-Fill—Used as standard factory-fill for Cat engines

Standards & approvals

  • Cat ECF-2

    Caterpillar ECF-2

Caterpillar's engine crankcase fluid category for CAT diesel engines with tighter deposit and wear control requirements than ECF-1a.

  • Cummins' oil specification for EGR diesel engines with a particulate filter, with capped ash to protect the DPF.

  • MAN M 3275-1 — truck engine oil

MAN's specification for medium-drain truck engine oils at the ACEA E7 level, without a low-ash requirement.

  • MTU oil quality category 2: higher-quality monograde and multigrade oils for MTU diesel engines, without an ash cap.

  • Renault Trucks RLD-2 — heavy-duty diesel engine oil

Renault Trucks' specification for extended-drain truck engine oils at the ACEA E7 level, without a low-ash requirement.

  • Volvo VDS-2 — Volvo diesel engine oil

The second generation of the Volvo Drain Specification, for heavy-duty diesel engines without aftertreatment. Withdrawn, but still quoted for older fleets.
