Manufacturer's description

Mobil Delvac MX Extra 10W-40 is a heavy-duty engine oil with synthetic technology that provides excellent lubrication of today's diesel and gasoline engines operating in severe applications, keeping engines clean and promoting long engine life. ExxonMobil recommends it for European, Japanese and American engines, engineered with a blend of advanced-technology base stocks and additives to provide a strong foundation for oxidation resistance, soot handling and wear control, supplemented with excellent piston deposit protection and reduced sludge formation. Its multigrade viscosity characteristics provide excellent cold cranking and oil pumpability at low temperatures. ExxonMobil recommends it for naturally aspirated and turbo-charged diesel engines from European, Japanese and American manufacturers, on-highway light and heavy-duty trucking including mixed fleets with gasoline engines and cars, and off-highway mining, construction, quarrying and agriculture. Key benefits include increased thermal and oxidation stability that reduces sludge build-up and deposits, enhanced wear and corrosion protection that reduces bearing wear and supports long drain intervals, and enhanced low-temperature pumpability for faster start-up with reduced wear in cold climates. The product carries approvals from Cummins (CES 20076/20077/20078), Renault Trucks (RLD-2), Volvo (VDS-3), Mack (EO-M Plus, EO-N), MTU (Oil Category 2) and DAF (DTFR 15B110), is recommended for ACEA A2, API CF/CF-4/CG-4, Cummins CES 20071/20072, Detroit 7SE 270, Renault Trucks RLD and Volvo VDS-2, and meets or exceeds API CH-4/CI-4/SJ/SL, Caterpillar ECF-2 and ACEA E7. It is an SAE 10W-40 grade with viscosity index 154, TBN 11.1 mgKOH/g and pour point -36°C.

Applications

  • Recommended by ExxonMobil for use in: • Naturally aspirated and turbo-charged diesel powered engines built by European, Japanese, and American manufacturers • On-highway light and heavy-duty trucking including mixed fleets with gasoline engines and cars • Off-highway industries including: mining, construction, quarrying, and agriculture

Performance & benefits

  • Increased thermal and oxidation stabilityReduced sludge build-up, deposits, and long oil and engine life
  • Enhanced wear protection Improved corrosion protectionLong component and engine life Reduced bearing wear to assist with long drain intervals in modern diesel engines
  • Enhanced low temperature pumpabilityFaster start up with reduced wear operating in low temperature climates

Standards & approvals

  • Cummins' oil specification for EGR diesel engines with a particulate filter, with capped ash to protect the DPF.

  • Daimler Truck DTFR 15B110 (formerly MB 228.3) — multigrade engine oil

A multigrade engine oil for medium- and high-duty diesel engines without exhaust aftertreatment — typically up to Euro IV. Daimler Truck renumbered the MB-Approval sheets into the DTFR series; MB 228.3 and DTFR 15B110 are the same requirement.Source

  • MTU oil quality category 2: higher-quality monograde and multigrade oils for MTU diesel engines, without an ash cap.

  • Cummins' low-SAPS specification for diesel engines with full exhaust aftertreatment, with strict oxidation and aeration requirements.

  • Renault Trucks RLD-2 — heavy-duty diesel engine oil

Renault Trucks' specification for extended-drain truck engine oils at the ACEA E7 level, without a low-ash requirement.

  • Volvo's engine oil specification for Euro III–V trucks without a particulate filter, with severe soot control requirements for EGR engines.

  • Mack EO-M Plus

Mack EO-M Plus — truck engine oil (superseded)

An improved version of Mack EO-M for EGR-equipped diesel engines, superseded by EO-N and later Mack EO specifications.

  • Mack EO-N

Mack EO-N — truck engine oil (superseded)

A Mack engine oil specification preceding EO-N+ and Mack EO-O Premium Plus in Mack's own specification progression.Source

  • Cummins' oil specification for engines with cooled exhaust gas recirculation, with increased soot control requirements.

  • ACEA A2/B2

    ACEA A2/B2 oil sequence

Historical (pre-2002) ACEA sequence for petrol and light-duty diesel passenger-car engines; superseded by A3/B4 and no longer on ACEA's current list.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CG-4 performance level

API's service category for heavy-duty diesel engines, written for fuel below 0.5 % sulphur. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CF-4 performance level

API's service category for high-speed four-stroke diesel engines, of the generation preceding the emissions standards. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CF performance level

API's service category for indirect-injection diesel engines, tolerant of higher-sulphur fuel. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Cummins' engine oil specification for the diesel engine generation preceding cooled EGR. Superseded by CES 20076 and later.

  • Cummins' engine oil specification for older diesel engines without exhaust aftertreatment. Superseded by later CES specifications.

  • Volvo VDS-2 — Volvo diesel engine oil

The second generation of the Volvo Drain Specification, for heavy-duty diesel engines without aftertreatment. Withdrawn, but still quoted for older fleets.

  • Diesel engine oil, API CI-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CH-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Petrol engine oil, API SL performance level

API's service category for spark-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Petrol engine oil, API SJ performance level

API's service category for spark-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Cat ECF-2

    Caterpillar ECF-2

Caterpillar's engine crankcase fluid category for CAT diesel engines with tighter deposit and wear control requirements than ECF-1a.

  • ACEA E7

    ACEA E7 oil sequence

    ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines.Source

  • Mercedes-Benz high-TBN truck diesel engine oil

A Mercedes-Benz approval for diesel engines without exhaust aftertreatment, carrying a higher alkaline reserve (TBN) than the 228.3 level. Daimler Truck now issues the same requirement as DTFR 15B120.

  • MAN M 3275-1 — truck engine oil
