Manufacturer's description

Oils intended for high-capacity diesel engines. Shell Rimula R4 L oils use "Low-SAPS" additive technology to ensure protection under the toughest conditions. They deliver significant improvements in wear protection, deposit control and resistance to high-temperature breakdown compared with other previous-generation oils.

Applications

  • Off-highway equipment applicationsSuitable for use in agricultural and construction applications, even where fuels with a higher sulphur content are used.
  • High-output heavy duty diesel enginesShell Rimula R4 L meets the requirements of the leading. Specifications, approvals and recommendations
  • Ford WSS-M2C171-F1For the full list of recommendations and approvals, please consult your local Shell technical representative. European and North American engine manufacturers.

Performance & benefits

  • Portfolio optimisation: approved by the most important original equipment manufacturers, optimising the product portfolio for mixed fleets.
  • Emissions-system compatibility: the advanced low-ash formulation helps prevent blockage or contamination of exhaust after-treatment systems, helping maintain vehicle emissions compliance and fuel efficiency.
  • Lower operating costs: contains an improved acid-control system that helps commercial fleet operators achieve maximum drain-interval flexibility.
  • Remarkable anti-wear protection: confirmed by millions of kilometres in customer service, provides a level of wear protection visibly superior to oils from previous generations, extending engine life and efficiency.

    ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines.Source

  • ACEA E9

    ACEA E9 oil sequence

ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines with a particulate filter. A capped sulphated-ash level, the counterpart of E7 for DPF-equipped engines. One of ACEA's current sequences.Source

  • ACEA E11

ACEA E11 — heavy-duty diesel, low SAPS, extended drain

An ACEA sequence for Euro VI and later heavy-duty diesel engines fitted with DPF and SCR. It requires low-SAPS additive chemistry (reduced sulphur, ash and phosphorus) and the oxidation resistance needed for extended drain intervals.

  • Allison TES-439

    Allison TES-439 — off-highway transmission fluid

Allison's transmission fluid specification for off-highway equipment and buses, successor to the C-4 level, with tighter oxidation stability and friction durability requirements.

  • Cat ECF-3

    Caterpillar ECF-3

Caterpillar's current engine crankcase fluid category, with capped sulphated ash, for CAT engines fitted with a particulate filter.

  • Cat ECF-2

    Caterpillar ECF-2

Caterpillar's engine crankcase fluid category for CAT diesel engines with tighter deposit and wear control requirements than ECF-1a.

  • Cummins' specification for low-viscosity oils (API FA-4 level) that cut fuel consumption in the heavy-duty diesel engines designed for them.

  • The Cummins specification matching the API CK-4 level, for modern heavy-duty diesel engines with exhaust aftertreatment.

  • Detroit Fluids Specification 93K222

Detroit Diesel's current heavy-duty diesel engine oil specification, matching the API CK-4 level, with increased oxidation stability and aeration requirements.

  • Detroit Fluids Specification 93K218

Detroit Diesel's engine oil specification at the API CJ-4 level, for engines with a particulate filter. Sulphated ash is capped to protect the DPF.

MAN's specification for low-SAPS, low-viscosity oils delivering fuel economy on Euro VI engines.

  • Daimler Truck DTFR 15C100 (formerly MB 228.31) — low-SAPS engine oil

A low-ash engine oil for medium- and high-duty diesel engines fitted with exhaust aftertreatment. Daimler Truck renumbered the MB-Approval sheets into the DTFR series; MB 228.31 and DTFR 15C100 are the same requirement.Source

  • MTU Oil Category 2.1 (low SAPS)

The low-ash form of MTU category 2: a multigrade oil with under 1 % ash, approved only where the fuel carries less than 50 mg/kg sulphur.

  • JASO DH-2

JASO DH-2 — diesel engine oil
