Manufacturer's description

Fully synthetic oil for high-capacity diesel engines. Shell Rimula Ultra offers exclusive "Low-SAPS" additive technology and a unique anti-wear system. Its protective power is further strengthened by the use of synthetic base oil technology, which delivers extended drain intervals and fuel economy. Particularly suitable for Euro 4, 5 and 6 vehicles.

Applications

  • On-highway heavy duty applicationsParticularly suited to a wide range of heavy duty vehicles and transport applications with emission-controlled engines. It is especially suitable for truck fleets running mixed Euro 4, 5 and Euro 6 engines. Specifications, approvals and recommendations

Performance & benefits

  • Fuel economy: through the use of Shell's most advanced technology, offers enhanced fuel-economy capability* without compromising engine protection or durability (*e.g. compared with high-viscosity oils such as SAE 15W-40, SAE 10W-40 and SAE 10W-30).
  • Maintenance saving: meets the extended oil-drain-interval requirements, from the latest Euro 6 to older-generation engines, allowing operators to optimise maintenance planning and control maintenance costs.
  • Emissions-system compatibility: the advanced low-ash formulation helps prevent blockage or contamination of exhaust after-treatment systems, helping maintain vehicle emissions compliance and fuel efficiency.
  • Low wear, low deposits: unique additive technology delivers high standards of piston cleanliness, essential for extending engine life.

Standards & approvals

  • ACEA E6

    ACEA E6 oil sequence

ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines with full exhaust aftertreatment. A low-SAPS level, ash capped to protect the particulate filter, at extended drain intervals. One of ACEA's current sequences.Source

  • ACEA E7

    ACEA E7 oil sequence

    ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines.Source

  • ACEA E9

    ACEA E9 oil sequence

ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines with a particulate filter. A capped sulphated-ash level, the counterpart of E7 for DPF-equipped engines. One of ACEA's current sequences.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CJ-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CI-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CH-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CG-4 performance level

API's service category for heavy-duty diesel engines, written for fuel below 0.5 % sulphur. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CF-4 performance level

API's service category for high-speed four-stroke diesel engines, of the generation preceding the emissions standards. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Diesel engine oil, API CF performance level

API's service category for indirect-injection diesel engines, tolerant of higher-sulphur fuel. An earlier category in the API service classification, written for the engines of its era; it still appears on datasheets alongside the current categories.Source

  • Cat ECF-3

    Caterpillar ECF-3

Caterpillar's current engine crankcase fluid category, with capped sulphated ash, for CAT engines fitted with a particulate filter.

  • The Cummins specification matching the API CK-4 level, for modern heavy-duty diesel engines with exhaust aftertreatment.

  • Deutz's highest oil quality class, 2010 issue, in its low-ash form: a fully synthetic oil for extended drain intervals.

  • IVECO 18-1804 Class TLS E6 — heavy-duty engine oil

    IVECO's heavy-duty engine oil standard 18-1804, class TLS E6.Source

  • JASO DH-2

JASO DH-2 — diesel engine oil

The Japanese standard for heavy-duty diesel engine oils in DPF-equipped engines, with sulphated ash capped so the filter does not clog.

  • Mack EO-O Premium Plus

Mack EO-O Premium Plus — heavy-duty diesel engine oil

Mack's engine oil specification for trucks with a particulate filter, matching the API CJ-4 level. The predecessor of the EOS series.

  • MAN M 3477 — low-SAPS extended-drain oil

MAN's specification for synthetic low-SAPS extended-drain oils in Euro IV–VI engines with a particulate filter.

  • MAN M 3677 — Euro VI low-viscosity truck engine oil

    MAN's engine oil specification for Euro VI trucks, fitting between M 3477 and M 3977 in MAN's low-viscosity fuel-economy oil line.Source

  • Mercedes-Benz low-SAPS truck diesel engine oil, Euro VI

A low-SAPS Mercedes-Benz approval for high-performance diesel engines with aftertreatment, with severe piston-cleanliness and wear-protection requirements at the usual Euro VI level. Daimler Truck now issues the same requirement as DTFR 15C110.

  • MTU Oil Category 3.1 (low SAPS)

MTU's highest category in its low-SAPS form: a multigrade oil with under 1 % ash, approved only where the fuel carries less than 50 mg/kg sulphur. For engines with exhaust aftertreatment.

  • Renault Trucks RLD-3 — low-SAPS truck oil

Renault Trucks' specification for low-ash oils in Euro V and Euro VI engines with a particulate filter and SCR.

  • Volvo's specification for low-SAPS oils in Euro VI engines with a particulate filter and SCR, matching the API CJ-4 level.
