SAE International is the association of automotive and aerospace engineers. For lubricants its standards define the viscosity grades – SAE J300 for engine oils (e.g. 5W-30), SAE J306 for gear oils (e.g. 75W-90) – as well as requirements for brake fluids and gear oils (J1703, J2360).
