The German Institute for Standardisation wrote many of the reference norms for industrial lubricants: DIN 51524 for hydraulic oils (HL, HLP, HVLP), DIN 51517 for gear oils (CLP), DIN 51506 for compressor oils and DIN 51825 for greases. The FZG gear load test also comes from the DIN norms.
